Lagos Municipal Market
A vibrant and authentic meeting point where visitors can immerse themselves in local life. Slave Market
A historical landmark that takes us back to one of the darkest periods in Portugal's history. Opened in the 15th century, it was here that Europe's first slave market operated, in the context of portuguese maritime explorations. Today, it houses a museum that provides an in-depth reflection on this past, with exhibitions documenting the slave trade and the importance of Lagos on the trade routes of the time.
Ponta da Bandeira Fort
Located on the seafront, it is one of Lagos' most emblematic monuments. Built in the 17th century to defend the city from pirate attacks and maritime invasions, it still preserves much of its original structure. Inside, there is a small chapel dedicated to Santa Bárbara, patron saint of gunners, and various exhibitions related to the region's maritime history.
Governors Castle
One of the most iconic buildings in Lagos, with a long history dating back to medieval times. It was the residence of the governors of the Algarve and played an important role in the city's defence over the centuries. The imposing façade and ramparts bear witness to the city's military past.
